Navneet Ramesh (SRF Research Center)

Video Overview

Navneet Ramesh is a junior at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he is majoring in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology. Since Sept 2012, he has been studying an endocytosis gene that is implicated in cancer at the laboratory of Dr. Julian Martinez. Navneet showed that mutations in this gene cause abnormal cell growth in fruit flies. When he returns to UCLA in the fall, he will focus on identifying the pathway that is involved. During his 2013 SENS Research Foundation Summer Internship, he studied the regulation of a telomere maintenance mechanism that plays a role in tumor cell immortalization.  He presented his findings, which suggest overexpression of the gene ATRX may inhibit this pathway, at the SENS6 Conference at the University of Cambridge. Navneet plans to obtain an MD or MD/PhD after he completes his undergraduate education.
