2014 WFIRM Undergraduate Research Scholars
During the 2014 spring semester, SENS Research Foundation sponsored Wake Forest University undergraduates Julie Marco and Connor Crowley to conduct research at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine. Under the mentorship of Dr. John Jackson, Julie worked to identify the best hydrogel scaffold to use in thymus regeneration. Meanwhile, in the laboratory of Dr. Graca Almeida-Porada, Connor modified stem cells to help them localize to areas of inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract to treat inflammatory bowel disease.
