Researcher at the SENS Foundation Research Center
Biography
Lorenzo is carrying out intra-mural research efforts in the SENS Foundation research center in Mountain View, and was one of the founding researchers when the lab was first established. He holds a master's degree in Genomic Biotechnology from Sapienza University in Italy where he became a scientist and conducted research on RNA interference, a powerful method of gene silencing. Following this work, Lorenzo became interested in systems biology and began bioinformatics work for a small company in Rome. He was responsible for designing AI systems for biological databases and for providing clients with "smart" tools to turn databases into knowledge-bases by deploying semantic web techniques based on OWL ontologies. Lorenzo has been a long time supporter of Aubrey de Grey and the SENS construct. This led to his relocation to Arizona (and subsequently California) to help SENS Foundation which stemmed from his enthusiasm for the LysoSENS project as a synthetic biology approach against aging. Lorenzo is now leading efforts at the research center and is an active contributor to the design of future LysoSENS endeavors.
