Therapeutic applications of human stem cells - prospects and challenges

Authors: S.L. Minger

Stem cells offer great therapeutic potential for human disease conditions where the loss of specific cell types is the major pathophysiological feature of individual disorders. Embryonic stem (ES) cells derived from 6-8 day old human embryos offer the most therapeutic potential as these cells are capable of generating every cell and tissue type in the human body.
