Life to me is such an exciting adventure that I could not forego the opportunity to contribute to this serious effort to give people a longer, healthy life.

I\'m donating money to the MP because I think it\'s the right thing to do having read the arguments for and against preventing aging using SENS. I don\'t think it makes any sense to deny people the option of living indefinitely long, which is what some people seem to want. Undoubtedly if SENS works there will be new problems to solve as a result but problems concerning what living people should do are a lot more interesting than the problem of what to do with dead bodies.

After a human is born, it takes several decades to gain knowledge and experience. Then after 70-80 years, when the accumulation of knowledge is at its greatest, we die. Much too early.

One of the most important steps in the evolution of human society was the development of the ability to communicate knowledge and experience over more than one generation. How many failures could be avoided and what advances could be achieved, if we could extend our lifetimes to span over 10 or even 20 generations? Very few people are currently working on this problem and that is why we must support this important research.

A long lifespan will give people more time to devote to their relatives and friends, their environment in general, to knowledge and culture. Incentitves for a good and moral lifestyle will be even higher as today, because in the long run the \"unscrupulous strategy\" loses, but sincerity and cooperation pay off. Time will not only make us healthier, smarter and more knowledgeable - it will make us better. Quantity of life can greatly increase quality of life. Funding longevity is an excellent investment in Humanity!

We are at a point in time where it is imperative to challenge classical assumptions and prejudices. The technological advances of the last two centuries clearly show that homo sapiens has evolved to be more than a mere implement of nature. We will always be subject to the laws of physics and thus true immortality will not be achieved, nevertheless, this project has the potential to greatly enhance human society and provide a manifold of opportunities to current and future generations

Longevity risk in conjunction with interest rate risk has created problems for the annuity market. As more and more baby boomers retire, annuity markets will grow as will the risk and consequences of underestimating mortality improvements. We are trying to education those nearing retirement of the aging crisis. Visit www.longevityquotes.com for more information.

It seems a cruel joke that just when we've finally lived long enough to become wise, we begin the great decline into physical and mental deterioration that eventually leads to death.  This is a travesty not only for individuals but for mankind as a whole.  Think what we could accomplish if we didn't lose our best and brightest to the terrible disease called aging.

On a personal level, we love life and cannot bear the thought of missing out on all the wonderful things still to come in this world.  And while history has taught us that the future is likely to bring not-so-wonderful things as well, we want to be alive to experience it all in any case.  This is something we try to keep in mind through our trials and tribulations, and those of our family and friends, and our country, and people everywhere: life is a joy, and every moment should be appreciated.

Nothing is more precious than life.  Nothing is more worth preserving.

We can't imagine a better investment than contributing to research with the goal of extending our own lives and the lives of others--with the side benefit of relieving suffering for countless people now and in the future.  We are proud to support the Methuselah Foundation in this noble quest...long may we all live!

If mankind it to take it to the next level and mature as a species increasing youthful longevity is the way. We must reverse the old aphorism "Too soon we are old, too late we are wise." It's just a matter now of getting the research work done, the tools and minds are available.

Know that I am doing this reluctantly. What’s wrong with suffering, death, and eternal oblivion? This was the only thing that I was going to do with complete, one-hundred percent success: relaxed, lying down in my bed, without being called lazy, being fed with chicken soup, surrounded by the care of my loving ones, worried about me like never before. I just wanted to retire, proceed to develop arthritis, slowly pick up Alzheimer’s, and finally die in peace: old, decrepit, confused, sick, and in pain… Now you are spoiling such a glorious event for me. Someone once said, "If living is learning, dying is forgetting." The amount of time each generation spends re-learning mankind's knowledge is increasing with each new discovery. As I see it, this is a bottleneck on our progress. I personally have spent more than a quarter of my expected life span just catching myself up on what has already happened. With my donations, and my own research, I earnestly hope to help overcome the unnecessary biological process of aging.

It is great to see that there is finally an organisation that is thinking outside of the box. I truly believe that dying is a disease, and we need to figure out how to repair and prevent the causes of ageing instead of just treating the results of ageing. I think that the next step is to get more support through media exposure. I really enjoyed seeing Aubrey on The Colbert Report, that is exactly what we need.

So yeah. I was always sort of interested in the issues surrounding SENS – like many people, I kind of don't want to die. And recently I read an article by some dude who was ranting about how it's immoral to research SENS. I didn't quite get his argument – it was long-winded, and boring. But I realized one thing. This man wants me to die and my loved ones to all die. So screw him, I thought, and donated.

Let me be honest....living longer scares me. Do I have enough joy, curiosity, strength, love and patience to live 150 years?..at times death seems like sweet release but choice is the key, 'to be or not to be' finally truly within our grasp. Hi there, Since navigating your website I have been intrigued by the information on the anti-aging war the group have proposed & find the scientific explanations on how to realise this dream fascinating. Imagine the possibilities, the knowledge that could be passed down to new generations if we were to live far beyond our current natural life spans, why should we commit ourselves to oblivion without a fight? afterall seemingly insurmoutable problems and challenges facing the human race througout history have been overcome, why not this? We think therfore we are, the very fact that we are consious of our exsitance & our eventual demise is what drives us to try to survive as long as humanly possible, apart from the continued survival of the species all the information & experiences in life we have gathered are lost when we die with only a small amount being retained by the next generation, for me this is the hardest thing of all to fathom, lets try & put a stop to it. Kevin.

When my daughter was five years old she learned about death. Then one night she started to cry “Daddy, I don’t want to die! I don’t want you to die! I don’t want anybody to die! I want to live forever and ever!” I tried to explain to her why humans should accept death. I realized there is no explanation. Children realize how wonderful and precious life is. Adults sometimes forget. This donation is for my daughter. I want to do whatever I can to grant her wish.

I am 30 as of this writing, so for most charities I believe that in investing I can make better returns over time and donate later after my resources are more significant. In the case of aging, however, the investment will take time to come to fruition--donating it all after I'm dead doesn't really make sense.

Everyone probably thinks that there are going to be enough wealthy people out there to advance aging research for all, and prefer to save their own funds and partake later of others' generosity. Trends make this almost assured in the long term, however, if you have the means to help in this long term goal (and almost everyone everyone truly does, to at least a limited degree), does it really make sense to risk being late to the party when there is something you could have done?

I am doing a speech regarding why we should end aging for my public speaking class. I encouraged them to visit this site and donate any amount. Here is a snipit of my speech:

The inherent psychology regarding aging suggests that we ought to rationalize it as a "good" thing: something that is "natural". Should we? (Need) Consider this quote from Katherine Power's article "The End of Suffering". Before anesthesia, surgery used to be agony. It's hard to imagine that anyone could have been anything but pleased when painless surgery was introduced in the mid-19th century. And yet, although many welcomed anesthesia, some did object. In Zurich, anesthesia was even outlawed. "Pain is a natural and intended curse of the primal sin. Any attempt to do away with it must be wrong," claimed the Zurich City Fathers. Painless delivery in childbirth was a particularly contentious issue. Some insisted that "in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children" (Genesis 3:16). Others, like Doctor Charles Delucena Meigs (1792-1869), Professor of Obstetrics and Diseases of Women at Jefferson Medical College, believed that labor pains were " most desirable, salutary and conservative manifestation of the life force". (Power, The End of suffering, 47)

Why did I include this quote regarding a time period 150 years ago? Many analogies can be drawn between the use of chemical anesthesia to relieve pain and using biotechnology to reverse or stop aging. Both contribute to significant human suffering. Before anesthesia, people rationalized the suffering of surgery as a good thing because they couldn't avoid it. When it was avoidable through breakthrough drugs, some people refused to let go of the "natural order" which they thought things have to happen by. Ray Kurzweil claims that people will also object to reversing aging on the same grounds in "Fantastic Voyage" (Kurzweil, 7).

How many lives will the Methuselah Foundation save? How about at least 66 million?   Here's how I estimate that. Current world population of 6.6B. Conservatively assume 1% die each year from aging related causes, so that's 66 million aging driven deaths per year. Accelerate the date by which aging ceases to be a routine cause of death by just a single year,  and 66 million lives will have been saved. We think such a one year acceleration is a modest goal for the Foundation. If it stimulates a 10 year acceleration, that would mean 660 million lives saved! We want to help the Foundation do that, and to be there to enjoy the results.

My donation is entirely selfish!  As a cancer patient, I stand to benefit greatly from any advances made by SENS.  Science has clearly shown the close connections between ageing processes and carcinogenesis, and many of the innovative investigations funded by SENS are a hell lot more promising than the cytotoxic approach promoted by the pharmaceutical industry.  Just imagine SENS would receive only a tiny sliver of the mostly wasted research funds poured into chemotherapy agents with highly questionable overall benefits for patient survival…

I think the directions that this organization (in as much as I am familiar with them) are well intended and worthy. I hope that people will also begin to be more aware that research to make computing devices solve problems in a way more akin to how the brain solves problems, is something that potentially could enable us to make much greater strides in many Biotech areas including Aging research. For anyone who is interested, a seminal book on the subject is "On Intelligence" by Jeff Hawkins.

Trying to avoid serious illness through maintenance of our "machinery" is something we do already with physical excersize. So the core mechanism sounds familiar. If this repair and maintenance program is so powerful that it could eradicate those illnesses traditionally considered as our biggest health menaces that would be very, very good. If it can do even more, that is a fine bonus. So it´s worth giving it a try.
