SENSFAI Presence at H+UK 2010
This post is part of the project:
SENSFAI student researcher Barry Bently and his SENSFAI mentor Stuart G. Calimport recently attended the Humanity+ UK 2010 conference in Holborn, London.
As part of their attendance they displayed a poster describing the project they’ve been working on:
The Ethical Validity of Human Enhancement: A Preliminary Framework for Objective Ethics
Their work presents a new and “objective, scientifically based system of ethical valuation, placing consciousness and consciousness-conducive complexity as the fundamental units of value.” The hope of this work is to move the discussion from a primarily subjective paradigm regarding whether or not societies should devote resources towards biomedical engineering and similar sciences. It brings into consideration memetics, consciousness, and thermodynamics to develop and promote ethical considerations of human enhancement outside of the typical “agenda-driven mentality” of policy makers.
The H+UK event brought speakers from the transhumanist movement and attendees from around the globe together for a day of discussions of futurist issues generally. SENS Foundation CSO Aubrey De Gray was present at the conference to deliver a presentation titled “Human Regenerative Engineering - Theory and Practice.”
If you would like to view their abstract and the poster, you may download the PDF files from these links:
